Kuroshitsuji II, Live-Action Nintama Promos Streamed

"Making of Kuroshitsuji II" spoof OVA in January; Nintama Rantaro in summer

The official website for the Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) television anime franchise has begun streaming a 189-second promotional video for the three original video anime (OVA) episodes that are being included exclusively in the Kuroshitsuji II DVDs.

"Ciel in Wonderland (Part I)" shipped in the second DVD volume last month, and it re-imagines the cast of Black Butler II as characters in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland story. "Welcome to the Phantomhive Family" is shipping in the third DVD volume on Wednesday, and it casts the audience as the "O-jō-sama" (Milady) of a dating simulation game similar to Angelique or Fantastic Fortune. "Making of Kuroshitsuji II" will ship in the fifth DVD volume on January 26, and it spoofs behind-the-scenes documentaries by showing the cast on and off camera as they put on makeup and other chores.

The Yahoo! Japan website began streaming a 32-second teaser trailer for Takashi Miike's live-action film adaptation of the long-running Nintama Rantaro ninja comedy anime series on Monday. The teaser is running with the Japanese screenings of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I, and it spoofs that film's franchise. (Warner Brothers is distributing both films in Japan.)

In Nintama Rantaro, Seishirō Katō plays the title role of a ninja apprentice at an elite ninjutsu academy in historical Japan. As first-graders, Rantarō and his ninja-in-training friends are called "Nintama" — a contraction of the words "ninja" and "tamago" ("egg"). The television anime adaptation based on Soubee Amako's Rakudai Ninja Rantarō ninja gag manga, which debuted in 1993. There was already an animated film made in 1996, and a new anime film will open in March, before the live-action film's summer opening.
