Saiyuki Gaiden, Live-Action Priest Promos Streamed

posted on by Gia Manry
1st Saiyuki Gaiden volume ships in March; manhwa-based Priest film opens in May

The official website for the Saiyuki Gaiden video anime series began streaming a 150-second promotional video for the first volume on Tuesday. The same video debuted during last month's Comic Market 79 event in Tokyo. The anime adapts Kazuya Minekura's manga of the same name, which ended in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine in 2009. The first of three volumes will ship in Japan on March 25.

Each volume will have a cover jacket illustration and an original drama CD created by Minekura, even though she put her newer manga titles on hiatus last year to deal with her health issues. She returned from the hospital after surgery to remove a noncancerous tumor last month.

Yahoo! Movies posted a new 147-second trailer for Scott Stewart's upcoming live-action adaptation of the Korean manhwa Priest on Tuesday. Hyung Min-woo created the original manhwa that Tokyopop released in North America. The trailer features new footage of Paul Bettany as the titular priest Ivan Isaacs, Cam Gigandet as Sheriff Hicks, Maggie Q as the Priestess, Lily Collins as Isaacs' kidnapped niece Lucy, and Karl Urban as Black Hat.

After three delays, the movie is now slated for release in 2D and stereoscopic 3D on May 13.
