Takashi Miike's Crows Zero Films Released on DVD by MVM

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Two live-action school battle manga adaptations released in April and July.

The video label MVM has confirmed to ANN that it has scheduled Takashi Miike's two live-action film prequels to Hiroshi Takahashi's Crows fighting manga. Crows Zero will be released on DVD in April, followed by Crows Zero II in July.

In these schoolyard brawl films, the setting is an all-boys school full of delinquents and gangsters. The students defend different turfs according to grade levels, classes and reputation.Shun Oguri (Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen, Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie) plays the delinquent Genji, who aims to unite the teenage gangs.

The enormously prolific director Takashi Miike is famed for such live-action films as the horrific Audition, the demented comedy The Happiness of the Katakuris and the grisly manga adaptation Ichi the Killer. His superhero comedy Yatterman (based on a 1977 anime) is scheduled for U.K. DVD release on March 26, through Eureka.

The original Crows manga ran for 26 volumes, and its sequel, Worst, was partially published in English by Digital Manga Publishing. Crows was also made into a two-episode anime OVA, the 1994 Koukou Butouden Crows.
