Golden Boy's Egawa Wins Inheritance Suit Against Brother

posted on by Ko Ransom

The Nagoya District Court ruled on Wednesday that manga creator Tatsuya Egawa's (Golden Boy, Tokyo University Story) older brother must pay roughly 23.7 million yen (about US$292,000) to him by March 1, concluding an inheritance dispute between the two that occurred after their father died in 1999. Egawa originally sued for roughly 35.2 million Yen (about US$433,000), and Judge Shinya Kurata determined that one half of their father's savings as well as the income derived from the rental of his real estate, about 29.1 million yen (about US$358,000), was Egawa's share of the inheritance. After accounting for withdrawals Egawa made from his father's account, the figure of 23.7 million yen was reached.

The suit was filed in May of 2009 when, according to Egawa's lawyer, arbitration in the Nagoya Family Court regarding the issue failed to resolve the issue adequately.
