Tokyo Anime Fair Attendance Drops 25% in 2012

Overall attendance for the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) dropped 25.34% this year compared to 2010. The most significant drops were on public days with 31,549 visitors Saturday and 42,624 visitors Sunday. Last year had 51,073 and 54,456 in attendance, respectively.
Preliminary attendance was down 5 percent on Thursday, 11 percent Friday, 38 percent Saturday and 21.7 percent Sunday.
TAF noted that weather was initially rainy Saturday before clearing up later. The first annual A Fes anime song festival was also held on Saturday at the Makuhari Messe event center in Chiba. A Fes intended to debut last year but was cancelled, along with TAF and Anime Contents Expo (ACE), due to the March 11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.
