Classic supernatural tale of inhuman boy inspired several anime adaptations

North American publisher Drawn & Quarterly will release Shigeru Mizuki's supernatural manga GeGeGe no Kitarō in English in early 2013. The retail website Amazon lists the hardcover release on February 13, 2013, although Drawn & Quarterly did not confirm whether this date is finalized when queried by ANN on Tuesday.

The manga, which began in 1959 under the name Hakaba Kitarō, has spawned seven television series (including one Hakaba Kitarō anime), several animated movies, and two live-action films. The stories center on an inhuman boy who straddles the line between the human and supernatural worlds.

Drawn & Quarterly already publishes Mizuki's NonNonBâ and Onward Towards Our Noble Deaths. Mizuki won the Asahi Prize in 2009 for his contributions to culture and society.
