The Japan Film Society will screen the Hotarubi no Mori e film at the Anime Expo convention on Saturday, June 30 at 12:30 p.m. Hotarubi no Mori e won the Animation Film Award at the 66th Annual Mainichi Film Awards in January. The anime adaptation of Yuki Midorikawa's (Natsume's Book of Friends) supernatural romance manga opened in Japan last September. Studio Brains Base animated the film, with direction by Takahiro Ōmori, and music by Makoto Yoshimori. The film stars Ayane Sakura (Dream Eater Merry) as Hotaru and Kōki Uchiyama (Infinite Stratos, C, Soul Eater) as Gin.

The film centers around Hotaru, a little girl who gets lost in an enchanted forest where apparitions reside. A young boy, Gin, appears before Hotaru, but she cannot touch him for fear of making him disappear.

Anime Expo will also screen the "major convention premiere" of the anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day television anime series. NIS America will present the first four episodes of the show on Friday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m. NIS America announced that it had licensed the anime in March. The company will release the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on July 3.

The series directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai (Toradora!), written by Mari Okada (Toradora!, Black Rock Shooter), and animated by A-1 Pictures follows Jinta Yadomi and his group of estranged friends who find themselves meeting again after being split apart because of a tragic accident.

Anime Expo will be held from June 29-July 2 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
