News Hatsune Miku Walkman Sells Out in Less Than 6 Hours
posted on 2012-08-18 20:42 EDT
Sony had to halt its sales of the limited-edition Hatsune Miku Walkman S in less than six hours. The electronics manufacturer began accepting reservations for the three Walkman variants on August 3 at 11:00 a.m. but had to stop accepting entries at 4:30 p.m. after demand exceeded the company's supply. Sony limited each of the three variants to 3,939 serial-numbered units (a wordplay on one Japanese pronunciation of "39" as "miku.").
Sony created the Hatsune Miku Walkman S to celebrate the fifth birthday of the virtual Vocaloid idol. The three models come in blue (NW-S764 L), black (NW-S764 B), or blue with external speakers (NW-S764 K/L). The Walkmans are planned to ship on August 25.
