Spirited Away London Screenings with Accompanying Food (Updated)

posted on by Andrew Osmond
"Edible" screenings in Shoreditch this weekend are booked out.

Update - The Aubin cinema has informed ANN that both Spirited Away screenings are booked out.

The Oscar-winning film Spirited Away by Hayao Miyazaki will have two screenings at the Aubin cinema in Shoreditch (directions), at 4 p.m. on Saturday August 25 and 9 p.m. on Sunday August 26.

According to the website:

The audience receives a series of numbered food packages to consume at specific points during the film along with a Bombay Sapphire cocktail inspired by the film. The smell, texture, even the way your mouth feels after eating the contents of the packages, will correspond to what's happening onscreen and heighten your sensory experience. Imagine eating foaming tapioca 'soap' powder as Sen bathes a filthy river spirit at the bathhouse onscreen. Or when bathhouse worker Lin eats a roasted newt, you're also eating the strangest sweet-savoury crunchy treat you've ever tasted.

The site does not indicate if the screenings are subtitled or dubbed. Tickets are £20 each, and should be booked by emailing [email protected] . The screening is a collaboration between Soho House, event organiser Polly Betton and experimental food designer Andrew Stellitano.
