Madoka Magica Films' 2nd Batch of TV Ads Streamed
posted on by Egan Loo
On Tuesday, the official website for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime franchise began streaming all four commercials in the latest batch promoting the first two films. Two of them, in 15- and 30-second lengths, feature the new theme song "Luminous" by the teenaged female duo ClariS, while the last two have the "Magia [quattro]" song by Kalafina.
The new ads highlight the new animated footage and the returning staff: chief director Akiyuki Shinbo, writer Gen Urobuchi, original character designer Ume Aoki, and the anime studio SHAFT.
ClariS is returning to perform "Luminous" song after performing the opening theme song "CONNECT" for the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica television series. "Luminous" will be the theme song of the first film, Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Zenpen: Hajimari no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part I: The Beginning Story).
The CD single for "Luminous" will go on sale on October 10, after the first official book for ClariS, Collection, arrives in stores on September 14. The duo made the major label debut in 2010 when they were still in middle school, although they are now in high school. The pair's first album, Birthday, debuted at #2 on Oricon's weekly CD album sales chart this past April.
Producer Atsuhiro Iwakami had revealed last November that the film trilogy will begin with a two-part compilation of the original television series, followed by an all-new film. Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Zenpen: Hajimari no Monogatari will open on October 6 at Tokyo's Shinjuku Wald 9 and other theaters nationwide. Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Kōhen: Eien no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part II: The Eternal Story) will follow on October 13.
