Jin's Motoka Murakami to Launch New Manga

Series about female manga creator in pre-war era launching in Big Comic Original mag in March

The Japanese publisher Shogakukan has revealed that manga creator Motoka Murakami (Jin, Musashi no Ken) will launch a new manga series in the publisher's Big Comic Original magazine in March. Editor in Chief Motohiro Miki noted that the "Manga creator manga" will center on a woman who, during the pre-war era when drawing manga was not considered a popular career choice, decided to devote her life to being a manga creator.

Murakami's historical medical manga Jin (pictured at right) inspired two live-action television series, both broadcast on Japan's TBS network and starring Takao Osawa. The series also inspired a Korean live-action television adaptation that aired last year and Crunchyroll streamed outside of Japan. Most recently, the manga also received a stage play adaptation from the famous all-female Takarazuka Revue Company in October through December. Murakami's manga concluded its serialization in Shueisha's Super Jump magazine in 2010 and has been collected into 20 volumes.

Miki also confirmed that manga creator Shinichi Ishizuka (Gaku) will launch a new series in Big Comic Original in April.
