Mushi Production veterans to train animators, voice actors on planned December film

Hamamatsu, a city southwest of Tokyo, is making an anime film tentatively titled Mina no Mori no Kanna-sensei for a projected December release. Taku Sugiyama, a veteran director of such anime as Phoenix 2772 - Space Firebird and Furiten-kun, is writing and directing the anime.

The anime is the second part of the Mina no Mori Project from the local Shizuoka Prefecture. The first is a live-action film called Hatatenu Mura no Mina that is also planned for December. Illustrator Mina Tsugaya not only designed characters in the anime, but she inspired the title character in the live-action film.

The project will be training a new generation of animators and voice actors on the job. The animators will be under the guidance of Sugiyama and anoher Mushi Production veteran, Kazumi Sakai. Fuyumi Shiraishi will be coaching the aspring voice cast members; she also worked Mushi Production titles before becoming famous for voicing the title character in Kaibutsu-kun, Akiko in Kyojin no Hoshi, and Mirai Yashima in the first Gundam anime.
