WataMote 4-Panel Spinoff Manga Series Launches

Nico Tanigawa's spinoff of Mokocchi & Yū's friendship; Gangan Joker bundles Oreshura Graphig

The manga creative team "Nico Tanigawa" launched a spinoff series of their Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! (WataMote) manga in the February issue of Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine on Tuesday. The new four-panel manga series Watashi no Tomodachi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! (No Matter How You Think About It It's Your Fault My Friend's Not Popular) centers on Yū Naruse, the only friend that the unpopular WataMote lead Tomoko "Mokocchi" Kuroki had during middle school. The manga follows the untold story of their friendship from when they first met.

The slice-of-life gag comedy of the original WataMote manga centers around the travails of Tomoko, a girl who thought she would be popular when she went to high school. However, she was in for a rude awakening, for cruel reality is not like the otome games (romance games for female players) she played. Tanigawa launched the manga in Square Enix's Gangan Online website in 2011.

The same February issue also bundles a Graphig papercraft figure of Oreshura's Masuzu Natsukawa character, as well as Mini Chara Graphig figures of Chiwa Harusaki, HIMEKA Akishina, and Ai Fuyuumi. Oreshura's television anime is now airing, while WataMote's anime was announced last month. Both title share the cover of Gangan Joker's February issue.
