Company to release 1st volume in N. America in August

North American publisher Viz Media announced on Thursday that it is releasing Shinobu Ohtaka's Magi manga series as a part of its Shonen Sunday imprint. Viz will release the first volume of the manga for US$9.99 (CAD$12.99) on August 13, 2013.

The manga re-imagines tales from the classic story One Thousand and One Nights (also known as Arabian Nights). Viz Media describes the series as follows:

Deep within the deserts lie the mysterious Dungeons, vast stores of riches open for the taking by anyone lucky enough to find them and brave enough to venture into the depths from where few have ever returned. Plucky young adventurer Aladdin means to find the Dungeons and their riches, but Aladdin may be just as mysterious as the treasures he seeks. Together with the genie Hugo and his friend, Ali Baba, Aladdin sets out to find his fortune in the depths of the endless dunes…

The series runs in Shogakukan's Shonen Sunday magazine and Shogakukan will release the 16th volume on February 18.

Crunchyroll is streaming the anime adaptation of the series as it airs, and Aniplex of America has licensed the anime series for release in North America.
