posted on by Egan Loo

Forbes magazine reports on a company, among others, that "guarantees" a spot on The New York Times bestseller list to clients. Using a business book by Tony Hsieh as an example, ResultSource explains that it does so by creating several campaigns to encourage people at speaking events and Groupon to obtain the book for free or at a discount, along with a 3-month, 23-city tour for generate publicity. Another client said the service would have cost him US$211,000, plus ResultSource's typical fee of more than US$20,000.

The New York Times responded to Forbes' query for its article, "The New York Times comprehensively tracks and tabulates the weekly unit sales of all titles reported by book retailers as their general interest bestsellers.  We will not comment beyond our methodology on the other questions."
