Medaka Box Manga Ends This Week

posted on by Egan Loo
NisiOisin, Akira Akatsuki thank fans for following manga to grand finale

This year's combined 22nd/23rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is running the "grand finale" of NisiOisin and Akira Akatsuki's Medaka Box manga on Saturday. The previous issue had teased that the manga might be reaching a climax in the coming issue's 23-page chapter. Both NisiOisin and Akatsuki expressed their appreciation and thanks to all the fans for following the manga to its end.

The manga centers around Medaka, the strongest girl in Hakoniwa Academy and head of the school's student council. The student body can submit pleas for help into the suggestion box that Medaka installed. Together with council members Zenkichi, Akune, and Kikaijima, she takes on the challenges in the school that include supernatural powers and near-constant battles. Spoiler (highlight the following white text to read) The last chapter is set 10 years in the future with Medaka as the 26-year-old board chair of Hakoniwa.

The manga launched in 2009, and Shueisha will publish the 21st volume in June. The story inspired two television anime seasons, and Crunchyroll streamed both seasons into several countries as they aired. Sentai Filmworks also licensed both seasons in North America.
