Ikue Ohtani, Nana Mizuki star in second film adapting late manga creator's work

The official website for the upcoming Buddha 2: Tezuka Osamu no Buddha - Owarinaki Tabi movie of the second film in the planned trilogy based on the late Osamu Tezuka's Buddha manga posted a 10-minute English-subtitled trailer for the movie on Monday. This trailer was first shown at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The trailer features Ikue Ohtani as a young Tatta, the boy who can talk to animals, and Nana Mizuki as Migaila, a thief who fell in love with the prince, but was blinded as punishment.

In the original 1972-1983 manga, Tezuka recounts of the life of the young prince Siddhartha, the founder of Buddhism. Vertical released all eight volumes in North America in hardcover and paperback, and the story won Harvey Awards in 2004 and 2005. Hideaki Maniwa designed the characters in the first film, and Toei Animation produced the project in association with Tezuka Productions.

The movie is scheduled to be completed this Fall, and premiere in Japanese theaters February 2014.
