23,926 Nintendo Site Accounts Reportedly Compromised

posted on by Rae First

Nintendo announced on Monday that it found that nearly 24,000 user accounts on the company's main fan site, "Club Nintendo," may have been compromised. The company reported that there is a chance that these users' real names, addresses, emails and phone numbers could have been accessed. The site boasts nearly 4 million users in Japan, and after 15 million reportedly illicit login attempts, 23,926 were successful.

Nintendo became aware of the illicit login attempts after detecting a large number of errors on its site. After further investigation, scattered attempts started around June 2, but it became more of a problem by June 9. Last Friday, the company announced that they would suspend all of the accounts which were compromised and asked users to reset their passwords.
