Tokyo Int'l Film Fest to Focus More on Anime Starting in 2014

posted on by Rae First

The organizers of the Tokyo International Film Festival announced on Tuesday that they intend to focus more on anime starting in 2014. For this year's competition on October 17, 2013, they have created a new category to promote young filmmakers in Asia called "Asia no Kaze" or "The winds of Asia."

The Tokyo International Film Festival is held in Roppongi and hosts a wide array of films and guests from around the world. This year, Tom Hanks stated that he will return to the competition and come back to Japan for the first time in four years.

Director Hayao Miyazaki entered into the animation division for the Venice International Film Festival with his film Kaze Tachinu (Standing Wind). The Tokyo International Film Festival sought to add an animation division this year, but since they could not make the adjustment in time, the division will be added in 2014.
