Man Arrested for Downloading 2,600 E-Books From Kinokuniya Without Paying

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 19-year-old unemployed male Narashino City resident on Wednesday for computer fraud. According to the police, the suspect downloaded about 2,600 e-books, worth about 1.43 million yen (about US$14,600), from the Kinokuniya Bookstore website without authorization.

Police reported that the suspect downloaded the e-books between September to November of last year. He allegedly used an unauthorized application on a mobile device that redirected store servers to false payment information. The man reportedly said that he learned this technique through Internet message boards.
