Higanjima: Saigo no 47-Hiai Horror Manga Gets Live-Action Adaptation

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Prequel to horror manga of battle between humans and vampires also received a live-action film in 2010

This year's 36th issue of Kodansha's Young Magazine is announcing on Monday that a live-action adaptation of Kōji Matsumoto's Higanjima: Saigo no 47-Hiai manga has been green-lit. The magazine does not specify whether the adaptation will be a live-action film, television series, or something else, but indicates that further details will be revealed in later issues.

The original story of the horror manga takes place in the middle of the final battle between the human race and vampires. The protagonist Akira only has 47 days until Japan is turned into an island of vampires.

The original Higanjima manga also inspired a live-action film in 2010. Funimation licensed the live-action film for home video release in North America.

Matsumoto began the continuation to his Higanjima manga in 2010. Kodansha released the 10th compiled volume of the manga in Japan in May.
