Prequel manga tie-in to 2009 film that creator Eichiro Oda supervised

Viz Media announced at its Weekly Shonen Jump panel at Japan Expo on Sunday that it will publish the Strong World one-shot of Eichiro Oda's One Piece manga. The chapter was originally distributed as a a bonus to moviegoers who saw the One Piece Film Strong World film in theaters in Japan in 2009.

The manga depicts the world of One Piece of 20 years ago. Viz Media's ad reads:

Find out what the world of One Piece looked like 20 years ago in this bonus chapter! Gold Roger, White Beard and a ton of other legends battle it out in a time before Luffy was even born! Meanwhile, in the current series, what will happen when all-out war comes to the coliseum?

The 10th anime film based on Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga opened in Japan in December 2009. Oda personally oversaw this film's production. The film features the Straw Hat pirates traveling back to East Blue and battling the legendary pirate Shiki after he kidnaps Nami.

Funimation acquired the home video rights for the film last year. The English dub film premiere will be hosted at Anime Weekend Atlanta on September 27-29.

The manga will premiere in next week's issue on September 2.
