Reports: Sony Develops Virtual Reality Headset for PS4

posted on 2013-09-03 23:51 EDT

Gaming websites Eurogamer and CVG reported that Sony hired Evolution Studios to develop a virtual reality headset to work in conjunction with the upcoming PlayStation 4 console. According to the sites' unnamed sources, the headset is slated for release next year and has been demonstrated in simulating a cockpit with Evolution's DriveClub racing game.

The sources claim the headset will be a rival to Oculus Rift VR headset which was on display at PAX Prime in Seattle last weekend. Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida declined comment on the reports when Eurogamer questioned him at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany last month.
