Library Wars: Love & War Manga Tops 2 Million Copies

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The wraparound cover band on the 12th Library Wars: Love & War manga volume announced last week that there are over 2 million copies of the manga in print.

The story is set in a future version of Japan. A law threatens to clamp down on freedom of expression in 2019, and Ikujoins the Library Defense Force, a military unit dedicated to protecting books from being confiscated. However, she finds that the job of her childhood dreams is harder than she bargained for, especially with her hard-nosed instructor Atsushi.

Kiiro Yumi began serializing the shōjo manga adaptation of Hiro Arikawa's Toshokan Sensō science-fiction novels in Hakusensha's LaLa magazine in 2007. Viz Media licensed the series for release in North America in 2009 and shipped the 10th volume in North America last month.

The light novels also inspired a television anime series and anime film. A live-action film version opened in theaters in Japan this spring and premiered in the United States last month.
