Limited bonuses, in-game "gimmicks" showcased from Namco Bandai's February fighting game

On Thursday, Namco Bandai Games began streaming the first promotional video for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku Nippon yo, Kore ga Otoko Dearu! (Japan, These Are Men!), its PlayStation 3 game inspired by Akira Miyashita's classic Weekly Shonen Jump action comedy manga Sakigake!! Otoko Juku. The video shows battles by the manga's characters modeled in 3D, the character Genji Togashi entering an oil bath, Principal Heihachi Edajima, and other elements.

The video also reveals that the game will have a limited edition that will bundle a 21-centimeter-tall (about 8-inch-tall) figure of the Otoko Juku Sango-sei and Chinju Chokurō Guard, "Hell's Magician" Baron Dino. The limited edition will also have a pop-up picture book and a visual case with an exclusive illustration by Miyashita.

The game's official website will host a "gimmick" contest where fans can submit ideas for items. The winning idea will be made into an actual item in the game, complete with narration by Principal Heihachi Edajima.

Namco Bandai Games also streamed a gameplay video to demonstrate the use of "gimmicks."

The game will arrive on February 27, 2014.

The 1985-91 manga about a boys' private school for delinquents sold 26 million volumes and already inspired games for Famicom (NES), Game Boy, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2. It also inspired a 1988 animated television series and movie, as well as a live-action film by director and actor Tak Sakaguchi (Versus, Death Trance, SHINOBI).
