Namco Bandai Games reveals 1st name changes for Western release of PS3 fighting game

Namco Bandai Games Europe began streaming a trailer on Monday for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle PlayStation 3 fighting game. The video features battles by characters from the first three parts of Hirohiko Araki's manga.

The description of the video notes the names of the characters featured in the trailer from each of the parts. Part 1: Phantom Blood includes Jonathan Joestar and Will Anthonio Zeppeli; Part 2: Battle Tendency includes Joseph Jostar, Caesar Zeppeli, Wamuu, Esidisi, and Kars; and Part 3: Stardust Crusaders includes Dio Brando and his stand The World, Kujo Jotaro with his stand Star Platinum, Muhammad Avdol and his stand Magician's Red, and Joseph Joestar with his stand Hermit Purple.

Namco Bandai Games noted last month that character names will be changed for the game's western release. Namco Bandai stated the names will be changed to avoid "offending any party,” while working with Japanese publisher Shueisha to fit new name choices with creator Hirohiko Araki's intentions. The company also stated that Japanese sound effect animations will remain intact.

Namco Bandai Games plans to release the game in North America, Europe, and Australasia in 2014. The trailer notes that the European version will be available in spring 2014.

The game, which includes characters from across all eight parts of Hirohiko Araki's long-running JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga, shipped in Japan on August 29. CyberConnect2 developed the game for Bandai Namco Games, with Hiroshi Matsuyama directing.
