Ghibli Documentary Kingdom of Dreams & Madness' TV Ad Streamed

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Film following Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, Toshio Suzuki to open in Japan on November 16

Niconico is currently streaming a 15-second television commercial for Yume to Kyōki no Ōkoku (The Kingdom of Dreams & Madness), the documentary film about the acclaimed anime company Studio Ghibli. Director Mami Sunada (Ending Note: Death of a Japanese Salaryman) followed Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki as he worked on the Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) film, director Isao Takahata as he worked on the film Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya), and producer Toshio Suzuki as he worked on both projects.

The beginning of the ad shows Miyazaki when he spoke at his retirement press conference saying, "This time, I am serious."

The documentary will open in Japanese theaters on November 16. The Wind Rises is playing now in Japan and will open in North America on February 21. The Tale of Princess Kaguya will open in Japan on November 23.

Studio Ghibli's international arm revealed last month that it is working on subtitles for the documentary.
