The Grudge Gets Hollywood Reboot with Producer Sam Raimi

New film to remake Shimizu's 2004 U.S. film, which itself was inspired by Shimizu's 2002 Japanese film

The Grudge horror film franchise has a Hollywood reboot in the works. The new film will be a remake of Takashi Shimizu's 2004 American film with actress Sarah Michelle Gellar; the 2004 film was itself inspired by Shimizu's own 2002 Japanese film, Juon: The Grudge.

Jeff Buhler (Midnight Meat Train) is drafting the script with production companies Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe. Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, 30 DAYS of Night, The Grudge) is producing the remake with Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise (The Grudge/Ju-On, Shutter, Dark Water). Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake, and Nathan Kahane are signed on as executive producers.

Still another Grudge film, Ju-on: Owari no Hajimari (The Grudge: Beginning of the End) horror film will open in Japanese theaters on June 28.
