Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Gets Limited Edition PS4

Pre-orders for 1,400 consoles with game's logo start in early April

Square Enix announced during a livestream event on Wednesday during that Sony will begin taking reservations for a limited-edition Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PlayStation 4 variant in early April. Square Enix will reveal the price and release date for the specially-designed console at a later time.

The pack will include both the PS4 and the PS4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and the PS4 itself will feature a laser-engraved Final Fantasy XIV logo on the HDD bay cover. The game's producer Naoki Yoshida previewed the console during the livestream.

Pre-orders will only be available on the Sony Store, and Sony will only be making 1,400 of the consoles.

Yoshida also outlined the game's new 2.2 Patch during the livestream, titled "Through the Maelstrom." The patch will be available on Thursday.

Additionally, the company also shipped the game's original soundtrack in Japan on Thursday.

The PS4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will launch on April 14. Phase one of beta testing was available for PS4 users from February 22 to March 3. Phase two will be held from April 4-7. Players of the PC game, PS3 game, or phase two beta will be able to transfer their character data over to the new game. The transfer service from PS3 to PS4 will begin on April 11, and players who transfer will be unable to use their PS3 copy. The PS4 version will include updated graphics, PlayStation Vita remote play, keyboard and mouse support, and the ability to share gameplay videos and screenshots online.

The game, which launched for Windows PC and PS3 on August 27, was announced for PS4 in January.
