Voice Actress Kanako Tateno Recovers from Life-Threatening Illness

Voice of Tales of Symphonia's Corrine has since undergone surgery, currently takes medicine

Voice actress Kanako Tateno (Tales of Symphonia the Animation's Corrine, Tokimeki Memorial 4's Elisa Dolittle Naruse, Hōkago no Pleiades' Itsuki) revealed on her official blog on Sunday that last year in April, she was on the verge of death due to an unspecified illness, and due to this, she was hospitalized for about a month. She assured her fans that she is now fine and taking medicine, and already underwent surgery to take care of the problem.

However, due to her hospitalization, roles that she had already accepted were passed along to other people, and she felt frustrated. She felt as if she also caused problems for a lot of other people. Tateno felt very depressed, and because of this, she even thought to herself, “I had a pretty happy life, maybe it would be best to end here...” She wrote that her friends were the ones who saved her from her crisis, as they came to visit her almost every day during her hospitalization.

Although she was happy that she lost 7 kilograms (around 15.5 pounds) during her stay at the hospital, she was later shocked at her bill of 222,880 yen (about US$2,200) for just one week of her hospitalization in April. (Japan's health insurance covered the rest.)
