Mushiking Arcade Game Returns in Japan

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Sega hosts location tests in Tokyo at Sega World Kasai, JAEPO

The official website of the Mushiking card game and arcade game franchise revealed last week that Sega will hold a location test for the new Kouchuu Ouja Mushiking - Ouja Kikan (New King of the Beetles Mushiking - The King Returns) arcade game, the latest entry in the Mushiking series of arcade games.

Sega is holding the location test at Sega World Kasai in Tokyo from January 31 to February 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. each day. Players can get a "V Gadget" item that they can use in the game after playing five games at the location test. Players can also get original tin badges by filling out a survey. Both prizes are limited to 100 pieces.

Sega will also bring the game to the 2015 Japan Amusement Expo (JAEPO), which will be held at the Makuhari Messe event hall in Chiba on February 13-14. Those interested can test out the game in Halls 4 and 5 on February 14.

Sega's Mushiking series of arcade games pits players' various beetles against each other with rock-paper-scissors style mechanics. Players' beetles can gain skills and grow stronger with successive battles, and a card dispensed by the arcade machine saves player data. TMS Entertainment adapted the arcade game series into the Kōchū Ōja Mushiking: Mori no Tami no Densetsu (King of Beetle Mushiking - Legend of the Forest People) 52-episode television anime series in 2005-2006. The company also produced two movies: Kōchū Ōja Mushiking: Greatest Champion e no Michi (Mushiking: The Road to the Greatest Champion), which also premiered in 2005, and Kōchū Ōja Mushiking Super Battle Movie: Yami no Kaizō Kōchū (Mushiking Super Battle Movie: The Upgraded Armored Beetle of Darkness), which premiered in 2007.
