AnimEigo to Launch Kickstarter for Riding Bean Special Edition

Company met goal for new Otaku no Video edition on Tuesday

North American anime distributor AnimEigo announced on its Kickstarter page for Otaku no Video on Tuesday that it will launch a Kickstarter this summer for a "High Octane Edition" of Riding Bean.

The 1989 OVA is based on a manga by Kenichi Sonoda (Gunsmith Cats manga, Otaku no Video character design). AnimEigo released Riding Bean in 2002 on a dual-audio DVD—its first anime release along with MADOX-01.

In the story, Bean Bandit and his partner Rally Vincent are couriers for hire - transporting clients and delivering goods in his custom sports car "Roadbuster" for a hefty price. But when they are hired to escort a kidnapped girl named Chelsea to her home, they don't realize they're being framed for kidnapping as their former clients Semmerling and Carrie plan their escape with Chelsea's father and the ransom money.

AnimEigo's campaign to release a "Otaking Edition Subtitled Anime Blu-Ray" for Otaku no Video met its goal of $40,000 on Tuesday within 14 hours of the project's launch. Due to the success of the campaign, AnimEigo has moved up several of the stretch goals: the cover upgrade has been moved from 1982 backers to 999, and the four-page manga by character designer Kenichi Sonoda goal has been moved from 3967 backers to 1982.

AnimeEigo successfully funded a Kickstarter to release Bubblegum Crisis on Blu-Ray in 2013.
