Sazae-san Statue in Fukuoka City Vandalized

Television channel TV Nishinippon reported on its website on Tuesday that a statue of a character from the Sazae-san anime and manga series located in Fukuoka City was vandalized. The statue portrayed the silhouette of the character Tara-chan, and was found on Tuesday morning by a security guard stationed in the seaside park where the statue was located.
The statue had been found broken off from its base. Another statue of the Sazae-san character Wakame had also been bent.
The security guard reported that when he/she had seen the statue at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, he/she had seen nothing unusual, so the statue was likely tampered with during the overnight hours between Monday and Tuesday.
The local government had placed four statues featuring Sazae-san character silhouettes on the location last March, but the statue of the Sazae-san character itself was damaged last July. Police are investigating both property damage incidents.
