Columbia Pictures Philippines, the local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International, announced last week that the Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Biohazard VI: The Final) live-action film will open in the Philippines on February 1.

The film opened in Japan first on December 23, and sold 644,000 tickets to earn 978 million yen (about US$8,350,000) over its first three days. The film stayed at #1 in its second weekend, before falling to #2 in its third weekend. The film has earned over 2 billion yen (about US$17.43 million) in Japan.

Live-action Resident Evil film franchise producer and director Paul W.S. Anderson announced in 2014 that he was penning the first draft of the film's script, and that it should be the last film in the series.

The first zombie apocalypse film loosely based on CAPCOM's survival horror game series premiered in 2002 with actress Milla Jovovich as protagonist Alice. Jovovich is returning to star in the new film. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter also features the Hollywood debut of Japanese entertainer Rola as Cobalt, a character crucial to the series' story finale. The cast includes Ali Larter as returning character Claire Redfield, as well as actor William Levy, and actress Ruby Rose.
