Nintendo revealed during its Nintendo Direct presentation on Thursday that HAL Laboratory's Bye-Bye Boxboy! (Sayonara! Hakoboy) Nintendo 3DS game launched on Thursday in the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo is streaming a launch trailer for the game.
The game is a sequel to the Box Boy! and BoxBoxBoy! games, with new features and levels. As with previous games, players control a box-shaped character named Qbby. Players can create a set number of boxes dependent on the level, and can use the boxes in a number of ways, such as a platform to traverse the level, as a weight to push down switches, or to block lasers.
The new game features new Qbaby characters that navigate the level with the Qbby, as well as other box-moving mechanics. Players who have save data from the previous two games, or who finish the game with a perfect score, can unlock Qucy and a new color scheme.
The game launched in Japan on February 2. Nintendo released the original game in Japan in January 2015, and in North America and Europe in April 2015. Nintendo released the second game in January 2016 in Japan, and last June in North America and Europe.
