Shiro's mountain climbing manga also inspires OVA this fall

The official website for the Encouragement of Climb anime franchise announced on Saturday that the anime will get a third season in 2018. The anime is also getting an OVA titled Yama no Susume: Omoide Present (Memories Present) this fall.

The anime's staff originally made the announcement at a "Yama no Susume Official Fan Meeting" event in Saitama on Saturday.

The OVA will also have an event screening at six Aeon Cinema theaters starting on October 28. The OVA will center on a certain item that relates to the memories of Aoi and Hinata.

The OVA and the new third season will feature the following returning cast.

The OVA and new season also have the same staff. Yūsuke Yamamoto will return from the first two seasons to direct at studio 8-Bit. Yuusuke Matsuo returns as character designer and animation director, and Kazuyuki Fudeyasu is the scriptwriter. Tom-H@ck and yamazo are composing the music.

The anime is based on Shiro's Yama no Susume manga series. The manga inspired a 12-episode anime series in January 2013. Each episode of the first season was five minutes long. The second season, Yama no Susume Second Season, premiered in July 2014 and had 24 episodes. Each episode in the second season was 15 minutes long.

Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired under the titles Encouragement of Climb and Encouragement of Climb Second Season.

The manga and anime tell the story of childhood friends: Aoi, a girl who prefers staying inside and who has acrophobia, and Hinata, a girl who loves mountains. The two decide to climb a mountain in order to once again see the Morning Sun from its peak as they did when they were young.

Shiro launched the manga in Earth Star Entertainment's Comic Earth Star magazine in 2011. The manga's 13th compiled book volume shipped in Japan on February 13. JManga published some of the manga in English before the site shut down.
