Newton and the Apple Tree Visual Novel's Kickstarter Campaign Reaches Goal

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Original goal for campaign was US$31,200

MiKandi Japan and Sol Press' Kickstarter campaign to localize Laplacian's bishōjo visual novel Newton and the Apple Tree (Newton to Ringo no Ki) reached its US$31,200 goal on Sunday. The campaign launched on Friday, and as of press time has raised US$42,021.

The project runs through January 3 and has stretch goals for up to US$100,000. The first stretch goal of US$34,540, which has already been hit, is for three special episodes. Other stretch goals include three light novel stories.

Newton and the Apple Tree debuted for Windows in Japan on May 26. The game is rated R-18. MiKandi Japan confirmed with ANN that Sol Press will also make an all-ages version of the game available.

Some of the Kickstarter rewards include multiple formats of the game, a soundtrack, an artbook, body pillow covers, and hand-drawn shikishi boards.

The game has more than five endings. MiKandi Japan describes the story:

Newton and the Apple Tree centers around protagonist, Syuji Asanaga, and his childhood pal Yotsuko Utakane. They are on a mission to find Syuji's grandfather who has mysteriously vanished. The two somehow end up hurtling through the fabric of time and ultimately crash land into a tree. "Standing" there before the mishap is a cute blonde girl with twintails. Believe it or not, this petite girl turns out to be the famed Sir Isaac Newton! Unfortunately, through Syuji's foolish conduct, the great scientific discoveries of the past have now been altered. The two must find a way to correct this and get back to their own time.

The game is fully voiced in Japanese and will have English subtitles. The localization will also have a toggling system for honorifics.

MiKandi Japan previously ran a successful Kickstarter to localize the Libra of the Vampire Princess (Kyūketsu-hime no Libra) visual novel in 2016. Sol Press ran a successful Kickstarter to localize the Sakura Sakura visual novel starting in September.
