Sega Reveals 1st 10 Games for 'Sega Genesis Mini' Console's U.S. Version

Console to launch with 40 games on September 19

Sega confirmed on Saturday that it will release the Sega Genesis Mini console on September 19 in the United States. The console will retail for US$79.99 and will include the console, two controllers, a USB power adapter, a power cable, and an HDMI cable.

Sega also revealed 10 of the 40 games that will be included in the console:

  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier II
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

Sega announced on Saturday that it will release the console in Japan on September 19 under the name "Mega Drive Mini." Sega previously stated that the console will get a simultaneous global release. Sega will release the console in Japan with one controller for 6,980 yen (about US$63), and with two controllers for 8,980 yen (about US$81). The console will include an HDMI connection and a USB port for charging.

Sega has also revealed 10 of the 40 titles that will be included in the Japanese console:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Puyo Puyo 2
  • Shining Force: Kamigami no Isan (Shining Force: The Legacy of Great Intention)
  • Vampire Killer (Castlevania: Bloodlines)
  • Wrestleball (Powerball)
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Comix Zone
  • Rent A Hero
  • Space Harrier II
  • Madō Monogatari I

The console was originally planned for release in 2018, but was delayed to this year.

The Mega Drive was Sega's third console, and Sega released the console in Japan in 1989. Sega released the console in the same year in North America under the name Sega Genesis. Sega withdrew from the games console market in 2001.
