Netflix Unveils Most Popular Netflix Anime in Southeast Asia Regions

Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution, Howl's Moving Castle, Weathering With You top multiple regions

Entertainment news source Variety reported the most popular anime on Netflix in 2020 for various Southeast Asian regions on Thursday.

The Pokémon movie Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution topped Netflix anime popularity in Malaysia and Singapore, as well as in India. Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle is the most popular in Thailand, while the Philippines favored Makoto Shinkai's Weathering With You. Junichi Satō and Studio Colorido's A Whisker Away held the position in Hong Kong and Indonesia, while Taiwan preferred Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Variety also noted that anime viewership in Asia doubled year-on-year from 2019 to 2020.
