Halloween Comes to Gaia Online With Shadowy Cults, Demonic Invasions and Epic Warfare

At Demonbusters event, Gaians can demolish demons or fight alongside them in a massive online battle

SAN JOSE, Calif. – October 30, 2009 – In years past, Gaia Online's members have warded off zombie outbreaks, stamped out vampire uprisings and thwarted alien invasions. This Halloween, the stakes are even higher: a full-blown demonic apocalypse is at hand, and it's up to the people of Gaia Online to save their world...or, if they're feeling naughty, plunge it into darkness.

As the world's most active online community, Gaia Online is home to more than eight million teens and young adults. It's a motley mix of artists, writers, movie buffs, fashionistas, gamers, anime fans and general dreamers, but they've got one thing in common: Halloween is the biggest holiday of their year, and they'll be spending it on Gaia Online. From October 29 through November 6 Gaia Online's Demonbusters event will let users pick a team, build a personal cult and go head-to-head in a massively-multiplayer online war.

During Demobusters, Gaians can choose to follow one of two demigods: the benevolent Overseer, sworn protector of the Gaia world, or the Sentinel, who aims to flood the world with demons and bring about an age of insanity. Once they make their choice, they can execute missions, recruit followers through Facebook and earn virtual items to deck out their avatars.

“Halloween is a wildly popular holiday on Gaia Online and we know both veterans and newbies alike look to us to deliver a heart-pounding and hair-raising experience,” said Scott Kinzie, vice president of creative and user experience, Gaia Online. “From the creepy storyline and social gameplay to the crazy new virtual items and challenging missions, we're confident Demonbusters delivers the goods.”

The Demonbusters tale is told through an illustrated online storybook and a new comic by Gaia Online artists, who are veterans of the comic book industry.
