Ground-breaking Summer Program Combines Intensive Japanese Language and Anime-Manga Learning

Bellingham, Wash., 22 March, 2013—KCP International Japanese Language School has created a 4-week summer learning program in Tokyo that includes 2 weeks of intensive Japanese language instruction and 2 weeks of behind-the-scenes investigation of anime-manga in Japan.

For the first 2 weeks, students focus on intensive Japanese language study. Four skill levels are available, and students are placed based on a pre-test of their fluency. The goals are to (1) acquire linguistic knowledge in class and (2) apply that knowledge in real-world usage, speaking with Japanese people. Class contact hours and outside activities total over 60 hours. This sets students up well for the second 2 weeks.

For the second half of the program, the Anime-Manga unit is heavy on experiential learning, with over 45 hours of lectures and excursions. Anime-Manga is considered from perspectives such as history, society and business, to build a deep understanding of the complex role of Japanese Anime and Manga in today's world.

Excursions include visits to companies in the Anime/Manga business, Anime/Manga museums, and Anime/Manga retail stores. Students have opportunities not only to visit and see places, but also to talk to people who are involved in Anime/Manga work.
