adidas Originals x Dragon Ball Z Reveal Vegeta Ultra Tech & Majin Boo Kamanda

(Herzogenaurach, Germany)—adidas Originals continues its explosive collaboration with cult Japanese anime series Dragon Ball Z this month, paying homage to two more iconic characters from the franchise with a duo of vastly different footwear silhouettes.

For the latest chapter of the collaboration, adidas Originals uses the Kamanda and Ultra Tech models as its canvas, using material, color and texture to reference the characters Boo and Vegeta, respectively.

First up, the soccer-inspired Kamanda silhouette pays tribute to the powerful fighter Boo, renowned for his rubber-like body, allowing him to shapeshift and assume a variety of forms, some more powerful than others. The distinctive aesthetic of the Kamanda silhouette fits perfectly with Boo's appearance; the pink nubuck upper with its perforation replicates the holes in the fighter's own head and torso, while the heel patch makes reference to Boo's Maijin belt, complete with “M” insignia. The distinctive flows of the translucent rubber outsole resemble Boo's rippling trousers, while a wealth of subtle details on the tooling, tongue, and even the gold foil Kamanda logo, make further reference to Boo's legacy.

Next, the Ultra Tech model is recreated in the form of Vegeta, prince of the Saiyan race, known for his distinctive black hair, blue suit and golden armor. The Ultra Tech model replicates his appearance in a like-for-like color scheme, rendering the shoe's upper in blue and gold, complete with embroidery across the toe-box which recreates Vegeta's rippled armor plates. The white of his gloves, boots and chestplates can be seen running across the shoe's sides, while golden accents and a printed detail of his famous “Over 9000!” quote complete the picture.

As with every shoe in the Dragon Ball Z series, both shoes are finished with collaborative sockliners, concealed Dragon Ball symbols, and are presented in limited edition packaging which combines with the other 6 shoes in the release to create a single Dragon Ball back cover. The latest chapter in the collaboration stays true to its intent, paying faithful homage to one of the most revered animated series of all time.
