Kaoru Mori's Popular Manga “Otoyomegatari (A Bride's Story)” Gets an Original Art Exhibition

-An ensemble of original artwork showcasing the brides' miracle of love-

TOKYO - January 28, 2022 - Kaoru Mori's “Otoyome-Gatari (A Bride's Story)” (hereinafter Otoyome-Gatari) is getting its first, and large, exhibition at TOKOROZAWA SAKURA TOWN (Tokorozawa City, Saitama Pref.), hosted by Kadokawa Corporation (hereinafter KADOKAWA). The exhibition runs between Feb 23 - Mar 21, 2022. Tickets went on sale Jan 28.

Otoyome-Gatari follows the journey of Henry Smith through 19th century Turkic Central Asia and the “otoyome” (beautiful brides) he meets along the way and their tribes. Authored by Kaoru Mori, the manga began its run in 2008 and is enjoyed by a diverse fanbase, often praised for its beautiful visuals and lively depiction of Central Asian culture.

The Dai-Otoyome-Gatari Exhibition (dai simply meaning big) contains over 100 artworks in both color and black & white, all hand-drawn by Mori-sensei herself. The impressively detailed illustrations encourage you to take your time in appreciating the art and feel immersed in the brides' fantastical world.

As if the art was not enough, the following are also available (or in the pipeline):
- Event merchandise designed with original illustrations by the author.
- Special lunch menu inspired by Central Asian cuisine.
- Joint cultural events in cooperation with the representative embassies of Central Asia.
All the latest news will be posted on the event website and Twitter (links below).

Through Mori-sensei's art, follow the trails of Smith & brides, and feel the atmosphere of Central Asia inside the exhibition.

A personal message from Mori-sensei
Otoyome-Gatari, set in Central Asia (or Central Eurasia at large), is a region that doesn't get much exposure in Japan. For it to be enjoyed by fans to the extent that I'm now able to share it to an even wider audience through an exhibition makes me very happy.

The exhibition isn't just about the manga, but also an introduction to Central Asian culture. Fans will of course enjoy the show, but even non-readers should have a good time learning about the region and each country's respective culture.

Through the manga medium, a manga-ka like me is able to form a distant connection with my reader. With this exhibition however, I hope we are able to close that distance and establish an even deeper connection, even if by a little.

The show runs about a month, which is longer than your typical exhibition, so please do give it a visit. I'm looking forward to it too. -Kaoru Mori
