Sanrio® Announces its Return to the 2023 Anime Expo®

LOS ANGELES – Sanrio®, the global lifestyle brand best known for Hello Kitty® and many more iconic characters, is making its return to Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 1-4, 2023. Sanrio will bring the excitement to the convention with all-new activities, fan-favorite character guest appearances, expo exclusives and a special fan experience within the Sanrio and Hot Topic booth.

Sanrio is teaming up with specialty retailer Hot Topic to deliver an interactive experience that fans will not want to miss. The 40' x 40' booth (#1400) will be transformed into a dark and sweet ‘My Melody x Kuromi Around the World Gift Shop’ inspired by Lolita fashion. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos sliding out of a life-size vending machine photo op, win supercute prizes at the claw machines, shop Hot Topic exclusive Sanrio merch, including the upcoming My Melody x Kuromi Lolita collection – available first at Anime Expo, and more! Throughout the four-day event, Sanrio icons My Melody and Kuromi will also make appearances at the Hot Topic booth from 12-3 p.m. PT daily.

Sanrio will also have a role in the star-studded kickoff of Anime Expo at the Welcome Ceremony on Saturday, July 1 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. which will feature Kuromi performing her special Greedy Greedy dance. She will be there to promote her #KUROMIFYTHEWORLD initiative which is meant to spread awareness of Kuromi's message of “Let's dream without fear!” and is aimed at increasing the number of Kuromies, all with the same goal of becoming the best version of themselves. As one of the main stars of the show, Kuromi will also participate in a #WhereisKUROMI promotion where she will pop up throughout the convention center on Saturday and attendees will be encouraged to find her and post on social media. More information about the promotion will be shared across Sanrio's social media channels at @Sanrio.

In addition, Kuromi is starring in her own short animation series, Kuromi's Pretty Journey, that launched on the official Hello Kitty and Friends YouTube channel on June 27, 2023. Introduced earlier this year in Japan, the 21-episode English-speaking version debuted with three episodes and will follow with one per week thereafter every Tuesday. Fans can stop by the booth to purchase one-of-a-kind Kuromi's Pretty Journey merchandise and participate in a special themed photo op.

Anime Expo attendees are also encouraged to visit the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck at the North Plaza where fans can shop merch including cafe-themed plush and apparel. Festiv'AX Japan will also be selling Hatsune Miku x Cinnamoroll collab merch in the South Hall lobby (SF10).
