The original Japanese version of “Purple Pill: Short Stories by Keiichi Tatsumura" is an alternative manga short story series released on January 1, 2023 in Japan. Comprising five short stories, each instalment was initially shared on the artistʼ s personal social media platforms, which immediately went viral and generated a cumulative total of over 100,000 likes.

During its initial release, Tatsumura was still a graduate student and the work was created as part of his graduation project. The content and his practice facilitated through social media garnered high commendation at school, and subsequently led to a groundbreaking achievement as the project became the first manga ever to be collected at the art museum of Tokyo University of the Arts, one of Japan's oldest and most prestigious art education institutions.

Published independently, this alternative manga is a rare gem in the Japanese manga market. Its translation and publication in English further enhance its uniqueness, as it diverges from the conventional path of works being brought to an international audience through major publishing houses.

The collection includes "It's time to take your medicine" which depicts the emotional exchange between a psychiatric cat and a nurse; "Tsuppari Yankee Apocolypse" where an 80s yankee challenges the torture of a super intelligence AI in order to save his loved one; "ISEKAI IMMIGRATION -That Time I Got Reincarnated as a HUMAN-" which tells the story of a hero reincarnated into a different world but ends up being detained by immigration; and "First Love of the Dead" a pure love story of a girl turned into a living corpse.
