The Click

It's The Click! We're back! New and improved! Or maybe we aren't, but it's been so long you probably wouldn't notice either way! I certainly can't!

For those The Click neophytes out there, i.e. those of you coming here by clicking on the link below the "My Chemical Romance Personality Quiz" on my MySpace page, what follows is a sporadic and impenetrable miasma of listings for a good chunk of the Japanese animation gracing the North American airwaves. All the dates and times listed are Eastern, with everything subject to change up until the very last second.

Speaking of dates and times, it's Daylight Savings this Sunday! To most of you, it simply means you get one measly hour of extra sleep. To me, and the rest of the TV-watching Arizona residents, it means keeping that hour of sleep, but eventually losing possibly ten times that amount having to stay up an extra hour later than the rest of the civilized world in order to watch all of our favorite shows. The advent of TiVo has rendered most of this issue moot, but take pity on the poor fools still living in the dark ages of watching live television.

It's also, apparently, Halloween this weekend? Normally this would dictate perhaps some kind of theme, wherein I might choose something apropos to the hokey spookiness of the pumpkin-obsessed candy celebration. Trinity Blood, maybe? Inuyasha has demons and stuff in it. And Bleach is all about ghosts! Kinda! Sadly, though, Halloween loses much of its luster when you reach a certain age where receiving fun-sized Snickers bars from strangers and pedantic vandalism no longer fills you with any sense of achievement. On the upside, though, repeats of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown are never a bad thing.

See? This Click Pick isn't Halloween-themed at all. Unless ultra-stylized CGI creatures fighting for the future of humanity against a traditionally animated backdrop featuring the voices of C-grade Hollywood stars like Piper Perabo somehow fills you with nightmarish dread. Which is entirely possible.

I had known the IFC channel had Basilisk for quite some time; I was even aware when they aired the first episode. It was being billed as a "sneak peak," along with a colorful graphic reading "Basilisk: coming early 2007!" So I assumed, naturally, that the series itself would not start until the colorful graphic indicated. But I was wrong. Dead wrong.

Turns out they've been airing new episodes for the past three weeks! But, in the interest of fairness, I happily ignored the first three premiere episodes when they were aired on Canadian niche television as well. Just so we're clear.

However, it has reminded me that the Power Stone Collection is now available for the PSP, which has reminded me that I don't own a PSP and should probably just fire up my old Dreamcast and play the Power Stone games again, because they are so much fun it's probably criminal.

I'm at a loss to say anything unique, funny, or interesting about this film. Instead, here's a fun snippet of information taken from a news item here on ANN when Media Blasters picked up the license to the movie four years ago!

"Gundress is a feature length cyber-punk action film surrounding a five woman para-military unit and their landmate mecha armor suits trying to stop a terrorist threat to futuristic Japan. Masamune Shirow provided the character and mecha designs for the film. Gundress earned some notoriety for its rushed production schedule and release to Japanese theaters in an unfinished, rough form in 1999. In June 2000 a limited edition production of only 5000 DVDs was released to the Japanese market. This extremely rare Japanese DVD included both the original theatrical version and a five-minute longer 'completed' version of the film."
