2005 Annie Award Nominations

Howl's Moving Castle Picks up Three Nominations

Howl's Moving Castle has been nominated for the 2005 Annie Award for "best animated feature," While Hayao Miyazaki has been nominated for the annie awards for "directing in an animated feature production" and "writing in an animated feature production" for his work on Howl's Moving Castle. Donald H. Hewitt and Cindy Davis Hewitt are co-nominated with Miyazaki for the "writing in an animated feature production" Annie.

In the "best animated feature" category, Howl's Moving Castle will go up against Chicken Little, Corpse Bride, Madagascar and Wallace & Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

No other anime was nominated for awards at the 2005 Annie Awards. The full list of nominees can be seen here.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony and gala celebration on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, California.

Last time an Anime won an Annie was in 2003 (2002 awards), when Spirited Away won in every category it was nominated in, Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Theatrical Feature, Directing in an Animated Feature Production (Hayao Miyazaki), Music in an Animated Feature Production (Joe Hisaichi) and Writing in an Animated Feature Production (Hayao Miyazaki).

At the 2003 awards Millennium Actress was nominated for Best Animated Feature and its staff had been nominated for 3 individual awards but failed to pick up on any awards.

Similarly, at the 2004 awards Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence was nominated for Best Animated Feature and its staff had been nominated for 3 individual awards but failed to pick up on any awards. Yoko Kanno was also nominated for the award for "Music in an Animated Television Production" for her work on Wolf's Rain that year.

The Animatrix however did win the award for Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Home Entertainment Production at the 2003 award.
