My first ever manga was Red River. I still like it. I kinda want to buy it for collection but I have so many series that I am collecting right now. Thinking about it, I don't know why it didn't occur to me to collect it.. I guess because I wasn't into collecting before.. :/
I did like the series, it was tad long but it was amazing.

Not counting Yu-gi-oh! which I didn't realize was manga until much later (I didn't understand why it was right-to-left, but I didn't question it), my first manga series were +Anima and Fruits Basket. I read them pretty much simultaneously. I think I must have been in seventh grade. +Anima is a pretty adorable kids' series. I wish it had gotten an anime--I think that would be really fun to watch. :3 As it stands, it's just really cute^^ I remember having a slight crush on Senri. Fruits Basket remains to this day my very favorite manga.

My first series was One Piece and it's what got me into the anime/manga world. Despite the fact that it takes up quite a bit of space, I've bought every volume that Viz has released so far.

The first manga I read was Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's also the only one I've read so far. xD
It really had me sucked in, though.

I don't remember if this was actually the first manga I bought, but the first ones I remember buying were three random volumes of "Battle Angel Alita" from a used book store on a complete whim. I had no idea what to make of it: one book was a teenage love tragedy, one was some strange Wacky Races/Death Race mashup, and the other was about a train heist.
And I never looked back.

Berserk was the first because of how the anime ended. (I think they did it on purpose to sell more manga.)
Shortly after I started with Spice & Wolf (cause I'm not counting on them to animate more and I don't want to have issues finding volumes later on.)

Patience is a virtue.
First manga = Dragonball. And I wouldn't have it any other way, that manga KICKS ASS.

My first was Magic Knight Rayearth, having already seen a handful of episodes of the first season. CLAMP got to me early and I've been a fan ever since.

My first manga was Rurouni Kenshin, which I picked up my freshman year of high school. The school library had a small bookcase with a number of titles (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Shaman King, GTO and a few others that I can't remember) and a friend of mine who was into anime suggested it. I ended up reading through the entire series in about 3 weeks.

That's... I wish libraries around here were like that... this makes me sad

Nausicaa
Way back when I was just getting into anime, I checked out the manga section of Borders, and Nausicaa was the first one that I read.
That's a pretty good place to start
