According to DirecTV's website, it's 177. Looks like it's just a typo in the news article.

If people have highspeed access and want Anime Network - Akimbo.com is the way to go. For only $9/month you get like 10-15 hours of content, for an extra $9/month you get an additional 30-35 hrs of Anime Network/ADV premium content.

Until Anime Network 24/7 arrives on a linear network, the Akimbo/TAN VOD is the way to go.

Samurai X: The Motion Picture and Gantz are among the offerings.
Right now, it's just those two. Will it change, maybe, but not till next month.

Ah, yes. 177 is just for those two. Both are English only.

If it took us to email or call Direct TV to put it on the air, I think all fans should email or call Direct TV to make it a regualar channel like "Cartoon Network"

I think their whole purpose is to test the waters with an anime channel by showing two popular offerings. Enough subcribers to the pay per view and maybe they can throw us a CD USA type channel where they can show straight up anime once a week. And then if they get enough ratings they can go the full 24 hours=-channel thing or at least that's my theory. But yea I agree fan demand is just as effective as show ratings. Plus ANN has over 81,000 people. Thats a decent city of nothing but anime fans so imagined if all of us sent in one well written e-mail asking for a full network of anime...

Well I like ADV but I do wish they would let other anime companies to put stuff on. I mean offer a little more selection or something.

They show only 1 movie, and on certain days. I want it cable has, a full selection for free!

Would love to see it stick, but I am beginning to have some question as to whether American audiences are going to support anime enough to really allow anime to blossom as it should as an art form.

(Which see the purported problems with a lot of the DVD companies.)

The last I check, nothing is for free. Besides, I doubt DTV or Dish will see the full selection anytime soon.
