I do, and it's an interesting idea you bring up. It certainly sounds reasonable: Kahn sees his properties doing well, assumes it's brand loyalty and decides to put the rest of his eggs in one basket. Ironically enough, it's FOX's basket. Oops. Anyone see the irony? |

But that's the thing, screw whatever the hardcore anime fan wants.I think it's a fair statement to say that if One Piece,Yugioh,Shaman King, etc.would've been given traditional anime releases,4Kids would've made more money. And IMO,that's the most frustrating part of this whole situation.4Kids is a business, and it's in the business of making money. So all of their dumb moves with the One Piece license and other licenses are their own fault. All I can say is that they're probably missing the hell out of the Pokemon license right about now.Out of all of the older licences,Pokemon was the one that kept the cash flowing on a consistent basis.I'm fairly sure the anime series has delivered high ratings for the past 9 or so years. And seeing as how we're in the eve of the 4th generation with the DS games and the anime,4Kids would've benefited from the potential surge of revenue later on in the year. As far as the series goes, after hearing a Bulbacast (a Pokemon podcast I believe),there's a rumor that Pokemon USA may want to dub the series themselves.A "caller" on the cast attended an anime convention in Britain where Veronica Taylor made an appearance at a panel. The caller said that Ms.Talyor commented that she had seen a pilot for a Pokemon episode where all the characters had new voice actors.Apparently,Pokemon USA can't simply hire the original VAs because now all of them are connected to 4Kids. So having the VAs directly connected to 4Kids may have been a sort of safety net if 4Kids ever lost the license to Pokemon.(which they did) If Pokemon USA wanted to keep the original VAs,it would mean that they would have to pay 4Kids to dub the show.If they'd want to dub the series themselves,it would most likely mean that they would hire new VAs.(which fans of the series are worried about) |

It's not so much "irony" as it is retarded. I've been saying for a while that 4Kids should have just stuck with CN. |

Pokemon USA could always turn to a local studio like NYAV to dub it since many of the Pokemon VAs work at NYAV as well. And the benefit of going to NYAV is the larger pool of actors and more competent staff members. |

Well i hope they learn they're lesson on licensing.
Those companies would make a lot of profit if they just aired japanese anime with SUBTITLES and not dubs. Like seriously, anime isnt created to be in english, hence it being in japanese in the first place. PLUS, if a little kid cant read the subtitles, then what are they doing watching it? 99% of anime is NOT for children anyways and when a show is dubbed, its changed to their liking and not kept in its original state. I say, let them air subs and not dubs |

One: A hell of a lot more than 1 percent of anime is aimed towards children. Two: They westernize it BECAUSE most fans are not hardcore purists that want anime subbed only and completely unchanged. If it wasn't so, they wouldn't change it. Three: Trust me, if there was more of a market for subbed anime they would be showing it on TV subbed. So stop acting like you know more about what’s going on than businesses in the industry because you don't. |

I would say that 75% of animes are targetted at kids. The ones that are for adults are usually shown pretty late at night. About 12:00 am, I believe.

Silly sub-snob. Don't you know about 60% of otaku were gatewayed into with English dubs. In fact we wouldn't be having this conversation no anime's subbed or dub are on tv. And how do you know that 99% of all anime is not for kids? In fact, there are more kids animes then you think Silly-Tea. Not every kid will respond to subtitles. Not every kid likes subtitles. Not everybody is you, not everybody is me. Let those who are comfortable with English have dubs. Let those who don't mind japanese have subs. Stop thinking like every broadcast network America should nothing but subs. And what's this about anime not for english? Oh my! I guess Looney Tunes and Dexter's Lab is not for Japanese as well. Silly-Tea, we dub their shows, they dub OURS. You know how the early otakus got their anime without internet our anything? They traded tapes with people for our shows in exchange for theirs. 20 years, shows that amass fanbases get dubbed into any language possible. Japan dubs U.S. movies regularly into Japanese. Heck, they dubbed our a couple of seasons of Power Rangers (adapted from their Super Sentai) into japanese. Look at Cartoon Network Japan {http://cartoon.co.jp} and tell me those shows that you see there don't belong there because they were made for originally made for English auduence. |

You beat me to it. Thanks for speaking out against yet another selfish purist snob who thinks they're right about everything and probably thrives on bootlegs, just like the rest of those self-righteous otaku. |

Pretty much all the popular show that get high rating are aim toward kids. Naruto, Doraemon, One Piece, Detective Conan are just a few of the popular show that air during the daytime.

...is actually a family show that airs in prime time, and used to run back-to-back with Inu-Yasha when it was still running. All the same, though, in 90% of cases, a family show and a children's show will generally be similar, content wise, only with the former being just a narrow bit less base and simplistic than the latter. So you're really not that far off. Last edited by Nagisa on Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:15 am; edited 1 time in total |
